Catholic Social Teaching and Bible Scripture

Human Dignity and the Unity of the Human Family

Each person is created in the equal likeness and image of God and so has inalienable, transcendent, God-given dignity. It follows that each member of the human family is equal and has equal rights because we and all the children of the one God. We are all sisters and brothers to each other.

Catholic social teachings says that everyone is to be treated equal in the likeness and image of God. In the world today, not many people are treated equally. When first world countries seem to have enough money to start a war but not enough to feed the poor. Many people living in poverty usually won’t live who they would like to be in the future. Many children would like to be doctors or lawyers but they probably won’t get that chance to achieve their dream.

Luke 14:12-14

“Then Jesus said to his host, ‘When you give  a luncheon or dinner do not invite your rich friends, your brothers or relatives, or your rich neighbors; if you do they may invite you back and so you will be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”

This bible verse is relevant because many people do give to the people who already have enough. and seem to forget about the people who need to be blessed. Many people think that if money was given to a homeless person, that it would be wasted on drugs and alcohol. But they don’t know for sure. God wants us to trust in each other and give to others, regardless of their religious beliefs, family background or pass troubles.
